Props to our friends at Transparent for getting the word out on Dan Black way back when, but despite garnering Radio 1 Single of the Week honors in August and a Perez Hilton shout out shortly thereafter, Mr. Black continues to remain criminally unheralded on the blog scene. A Londoner now living in Paris, Black turned all kinds of heads with his genre-mashing cover of Biggie's "Hypnotize", which reinterpreted the classic with a pop vocal spin and laid it over the triumphant percussion of "Umbrella", all backed up by a cathedral-style choral backing vocal allegedly sampled from some lost 80's sci-fi soundtrack. There's no questioning the brilliance of the white-label cover, but I was hesitant to hype the upstart pop star-in-waiting until he backed it up with some original material, but a couple spins through "Yours" and "Wonder" (recently upped to his MySpace) establish him as the real deal. Attenton British pop charts: there's a new sheriff in town.

this track is sick derek. Keep em coming though. this logging into post a comment is pretty lame too by the way, maybe that's why people seem to be posting less than on Good Weather. The place looks really good though... keep up the good work.
good point about the whole register/login thing - i had no idea that was happening... fixed now.
diggin Dan Black. thanks
In case anyone was wondering, the choral back ground from some lost SciFi film is from John Carpenter's Starman.
Thanks for opening up the comments section. I'm in love with Dan's 'Wonder'. It too f*#ck'ing good!
One thing that has been killing me though, is that I can't seem to remember what song 'Wonder' sounds remarkably a lot like. Anyone got an idea? Been bugging me all week:/
That was dope. Took a hip-hop classic and made it his own. And he managed to avoid dropping the N-bomb, which is always a plus.

Continue the good work!
Hi,
Thanks for sharing this link - but unfortunately it seems to be down? Does anybody here at neongoldrecords.blogspot.com have a mirror or another source?
Cheers,
