THE SUN WILL RISE AGAIN.

It feels like we've been on West Coast time for most of 2012, so taken are we with the Californian pop landscape at the moment. Dipping a toe into the crowded LA waters this week are Night Terrors of 1927, who dust off their floral print shirts and dive right in on debut offering "Watch the World Go Dark". As lily-jumping synths skip across an ocean of deep blue vocals and breezy balearics, it plays a bit like an Active Child remix of PAPA covering Kisses - a best coast trifecta of sand-blasted pop that kicks up the beach and keeps summer alive.

SLIPPING UNDER COVERS.

Harriet is the brainchild of Alex Casnoff, the lone wolf who cut his teeth playing in LA's wildly revered PAPA and Dawes, already an impressive pedigree in its own right. Over the relentless locomotive piano of debut single "I Slept With All Your Mothers", Casnoff's howling vocals come bursting from your speakers with the emotional intensity of a man at his breaking point. He breaks it down real slow so his half growl, half croon sweet talks its way into your head like the lovechild of Neutral Milk Hotel and Wilco, delivered twenty years late. All in all, it's a full-bodied elixir for the heartbreak of a crashing American Dream, like a Richard Linklater film in song form that ends on a vindicated Oberhofer-esque final note. Look out for Harriet's debut EP Tell The Right Story on January 31st.

SWEATING ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT.

PAPA is the brainchild of the Girls' drummer Darren Weiss, who swaps his garage rock day job for more indie rock pastures, and his new outfit is a great look for him. Debut single "Halloween To Me" sets out with a steadfast bassline that only bothers to take a breather when stripping down the middle eight to its skivvies, while the melody shoots and scores with a powerfully raw nod to Muse's "Starlight". It's almost as if Wolf Parade and The Strokes fathered an artistic savant, who learned to get his feet wet in the golden vibes by surfing giant hooks and raindancing on ivory keys.
