POPSHOP029: JAKWOB + LITTLE DAYLIGHT

As summertime radness reaches its festive climax in the coming months, we're keeping the Popshop glory rolling right on through the dog days of August. Coming in hot and humid August 1st, we have the live debut of local new kids on the block ASTR, as well as the much-anticipated return of Australia's Strange Talk to the Neon Gold stage in the main support slot. Then it's a knockout one-two punch of co-headliners, as rising superstars Little Daylight launch their debut Tunnel Vision EP (out August 6th) in the live headline slot, before UK club maestro Jakwob shuts things down as our DJ headliner. It's going down on Thursday August 1st at our Santos Party Home, with $10 advance tickets now available HERE. Don't delay though, as this one's shaping up to be a Popshop for the ages and you're not gonna want to miss out.

We first introduced you to New York's own ASTR a few months ago and now we're back with a brand new remix of debut single, "Operate," by local DJ duo The Chainsmokers. After lighting up remixes for Say Lou Lou and Little Daylight in recent weeks, it comes as no surprise that their latest doesn't stop burning either. The Smokers drop the original in a platinum vat of homegrown house, and it grows into a massive glimmering asteroid of a dance party anthem hurtling toward you. When it hits, it destroys.

We're always on the lookout for new hometown heroes and so far 2013 has been a good year for our fair city. Today it's time to get familiar with ASTR, a new futuristic pop outfit that are set to make a name for themselves around town in the months to come. Debut single "Operate" pops into the tape deck and immediately whirrs to life, channeling the nostalgic drama of Miami Vice and classic horror film scores through gorgeous R&B-tinged vocals and temperamental hip-hop snares. It's every bit as cinematic as you'd expect, a smooth operator in the cool of night that makes for a promising debut from the NYC duo.
