REELING THROUGH AN ENDLESS FALL.

It seems like literally everyone is losing their shit for the latest Cee Lo Green single "Fuck You", but for us it's all about its predecessor, his amazing cover of Band of Horses' "No One's Gonna Love You" that surfaced earlier this summer as a teaser single for Green's forthcoming new album Lady Killer. Dripping with all the desperate desire of the original, Green emotes over a backdrop of epic synths from producer Paul Epworth on one of the more heartwrenching tracks we've heard all year. Complete with a nigh on perfect video from Partizan newcomers Skinny (save for that somewhat cringe dialogue break halfway through), it's one of our favorite singles of the year and the first taste of what's shaping up to be a formidable comeback from Green in 2010.

TONIGHT JUST BECAME THIS MORNING.

I was never overly fond of Jack Penate's fresh-faced guitar sounds, but after initially hailing him as their new wonder boy, the alarming swiftness with which the UK music industry and press seemed to turn their collective back on the young troubadour was staggering to say the least. Penate could have easily put his tail between his legs and wandered off into obscurity in the aftermath, but instead he's resurfaced with one of the most impressive comeback singles we've heard in ages. Teaming up with the one and only Paul Epworth is one way to get your name back in the headlines, but it doesn't mean shit if you haven't got the goods to back it up. On "Tonight's Today" Penate's penned a classic pop song set to the dreamy backdrop of Epworth's nigh-on balearic production, the result an ethereal that takes us far away from the dreamy context of the present as our thoughts drift towards greener pastures and carefree pursuits. Perfect for watching the world wake up around you as you waltz home in the predawn twilight.

Earlier this month we waxed lovingly about Friendly Fires' debut album and called "Jump In The Pool" the most blissful dancefloor-filler you've ever heard or something like that, and now the lovely people at Beggars have been kind enough to toss us the MP3 for posting. Paul Epworth's lone production credit on the band's eponymous debut, "Jump" is all swirling atmospheric beauty and ethereal synths, like dance rock's own Aurora Borealis or being the last one up at sunrise with your friends all passed out around you.

Speaking of all things XL, Abeano has got an exclusive first listen to Vampire Weekend's first track since dropping jaws on their own self-titled debut last January. "Ottoman" trades in the West African bounce of the album for the pristine touch of production legend Mark Mothersbaugh, with whom they recorded the track at studios in Los Angeles and England earlier this year.
