Walk the Moon, quite possibly the best new band in America, step out into the spotlight this week with the Anna Sun EP, going the Foster route and coming out swinging with three of their biggest tracks ahead of their debut album proper this spring. The anthemic title track already won over the hearts and minds of just about anyone who heard it last year, but it's "Next In Line" here that's dialing us up and making advance reservations for a spot at the top of our Singles of 2012 list.

Put the key in the ignition and the track revs to life with a thumping backbeat and brassy synths, the anticipation palpable as frontman Nicholas Petricca's vocals set an urgent tone and anxious guitars shred through the leather upholstery. As you sit shotgun sweating bullets in the summer solstice, there's nothing to prepare you for THAT chorus, a Killers-sized behemoth that's sure to be one of the most infectious of the year. We've been hearing insane amounts of buzz out of the UK about Dry The River, so the fact that we failed to investigate for ourselves until this week is really not something we're proud of. Because fuck, these guys are GREAT. Sounding like the logical heirs to the Mumfords' arena-folk throne, their tracks bring to mind the perfect nexus of the Mumford & Sons and Arcade Fire at their most anthemic, and - if reports are to be believed - they've actually got the live show to back up such comparisons. Their debut offering comes in the form of "New Ceremony", which more than anything reminds us of what we've heard thus far off Mumford's second album, with a hint of more pop-based fare like Wolf Gang and Sam's Town-era Killers thrown in for good measure. Expect big things.

We hit Vegas for the bank holiday last weekend, and while listening to The Killers as we cruised into the Sin City was a little too cliche even for us, we found the next best thing in Walk The Moon via our friends at All Things Go. Formed in 2009 in Cincinnati over a mutual love of Local Natives and Animal Collective, they combine the nowhere town ambition and anthemic hooks of their aforementioned Sam's Town forefathers with an endearing Midwestern charm and a knack for addictive pop melodies. "Anna Sun" is the triumphant lead single off of their 2010 self-released full length debut i want! i want!, and with its stadium-sized chorus and brilliant accompanying music video it's one of the biggest songs we've heard from an unsigned band in an age, the kind of stuff British A&R dreams and major label bidding wars are made of. The band play NYC tonight at 9pm at Pianos, any A&R's who aspire to be good at their jobs might want to be in attendance.

LOST THAT FEELING.

Visitor have arrived from a parallel universe where pop reigns supreme and synths will never go out of style, and they've brought with them a heavensent slice of stadium-sized dance pop as a token of peace and goodwill. Riding a monumental synth progression laid down by the gods themselves (or more accurately, Australian hitmakers Diamond Cut), "Los Feeling" sounds like The Killers on a dreamwave kick. They make their live debut at Gold Dust tonight and we'll be there with bells on. And given our beloved pop hero Erik Hassle is headlining, we suggest you do the same.
