BACKED BY THE SILVER OF A FRIVOLOUS LIFE.

YesYou are the latest Australian act to wash over us and leave us breathless with bated exhales. The synthsational duo of Jono Kirkham and Gav Parry first breezed across our radar last June with debut single "Half of It" - still a jam one year on - but now they've returned with a new single featuring Marcus Azon of Jinja Safari, a band we've already featured in these pages and whose latest single "Toothless Grin" has been in steady rotation at Neon Gold HQ all summer long. "Frivolous Life" is a triumph for everyone involved, as Azon's sky-flying vocals take off into the night on the golden-tipped wings of YesYou's smoother-than-silk production. Together, they effortlessly surf the falsetto void, dancing a fine line between the shimmer and shake of Foster The People and the iridescent ooh-ooh's of Yeasayer. Carefree? Yes. Frivolous? Hardly.

PARRYING YOUR SCRIPTURES WITH MY HANDS.

Besides having one of the more curious names in recent memory, Incan Abraham are part of a new movement of brilliant young LA bands (see also: HAIM, Electric Guest, et. al) set to take SXSW by storm this year. "Paper Army" is a utopian postcard from an island where everyone knows your name and worries and cares are but a thing of myth, nothing more than tall tales from the mainland. Borrowing from the best parts of Local Natives and Fool's Gold, it takes off with a serotonin-fueled synth bounce and skittering tropical guitars, as Yeasayer-esque vocals hang-glide through the cloudless skies high above. Soaked in yearning reverb, Incan Abraham toy with your emotions like a wind-surfing kite that reels in closer and closer with each verse until you're speechless and beat, right where they want you.

TINY LITTLE WAVES OF THE FOREST.

We're pretty much all about the burgeoning Miami music scene - I mean, who hasn't been inspired by the sounds of the Miami since Will Smith first preached the city's gospel way back when? Born of the hot hot heat, palm trees and neon pastels of the Magic City are up and comers like Lil Daggers, Millionyoung and of course the amazing ANR, and if you haven't gotten lost in the very special jams of the latter to this point you need to make haste and do so immediately. ANR's debut album Stay Kids is chock full of psychedelic pop gems but none more epic than their STRAIGHT UP power ballad, "The Endless Field of Mercury." The track starts out sweet: choral arrangements and soft keys as far as the eye can see. Then come crashing waves of percussion and urgent vocals that put them somewhere between Yeasayer and Local Natives, and suddenly you've got a severe case of contagious elation on your hands. And though we posted the mp3 yesterday it gets better still - the music video is JUST as epic as the song and strikes the same angelic yet powerful chord - who knew that 1970's beauty pageants could be so affecting?

NEVERMIND WHAT ANYBODY ELSE DONE.

Yeasayer returned earlier this month with one of the most triumphant comeback singles of the year with "Ambling Alp", and now we've got an equally brilliant video to accompany it from the talented bros over at Spy Films. The track itself is like they took all the best moments from their excellent All Hour Cymbals debut LP and just upped the pop factor, the result coming off like a motivational pop hit from a freak folk boy band (and yes, we mean that in the best way possible). Their upcoming sophomore album Odd Blood just jumped to the upper echelons of our most anticipated albums of 2010, in the meantime enjoy the video (above) and revel in the glory pop of the single (below).

TAUNTING GESTURES.

Last February saw Local Natives emerge from SXSW as the toast of the festival and thus one of the hottest new acts around, while the three tracks on offer on their myspace had the blogs abuzz and A&Rs on both sides of the pond scrambling for their checkbooks. Things have settled down a bit in recent months as fans eagerly await more material from the band, but having wrangled ourselves a copy of the already completed debut record Local Natives are shopping to labels we can assure you the wait is worth it. Proof arrives in "Sun Hands", which will be finding it's way onto the shelves of all good record stores next month when our top bros at Chess Club make it the latest in their long line of phenomenal releases. A longtime live favorite, "Sun Hands" finds the Silverlake outfit at their most primal, all Yeasayer shouts and immense, visceral instrumentation as the track erupts in an explosive middle 8 before returning to the ethereal harmonies the band have made their calling card and easing to a peaceful conclusion.
