Word of our latest Neon Golden girl has been spreading like wildfire of late, so it's high time we introduce you to Loui Rose Allen, set to join our family tree with the release of her debut single in the new year. Known as Foxes on the streets, this 22-year old superstar in waiting writes leftfield pop anthems with the kind of infectious ambition that has desk-strapped A&Rs foaming at the checkbook. Nowhere is this more evident than on her uplifting debut single "Youth", an endlessly unique and massively anthemic debut offering that takes us back to the special days of Marina's "Obsessions". Vocally, we might call it a bittersweet fusion of Ellie Goulding and Clare Maguire if we weren't ourselves sick of the never-ending carousel of comparisons that befalls every new female vocalist these days, but the songwriting puts Foxes well and truly in a league of her own here.

Fresh off a party rocking set at All Things Gold 002 last week in DC are our partners in crime The Knocks returning as headliners, and those who attended their first headline show at Popshop 002 last February will remember it as one of the craziest nights we've ever put on. Then bringing the heat in the main support slot is superpop vixen Wynter Gordon, whose omnipresent smash single "Dirty Talk" has had her living at the top of the charts so long she should be paying rent. Rounding out the lineup is NYC's own hometown hero and firstborn son of the HeavyRoc family Samuel, as well as London via Tel-Aviv electro types Tiger Love, hot on the heels of international dates supporting Mark Ronson & The Business Intl. And as if that live lineup wasn't massive enough, we've got a once-in-a-lifetime, I-was-there-when Goldsmith reunion on the decks, as our superstar alumni Ellie Goulding and Starsmith get together on the ones and twos in the headline DJ slot.

We've been fully on board the Lissie wagon ever since we experienced her literally AMAZING duet with Ellie Goulding at this year's Great Escape festival (phenomenal footage of which is viewable above), and her debut album Catch A Tiger and its lead single "When I'm Alone" were two of our favorite surprises of the summer. Leo Zero must have felt similarly, so keen was he to remix "When I'm Alone" that he approached Sony to let him have a go at the track long after the single campaign had run its course. We're glad he did, though, as the results are nothing short of magnificent. Not unlike the brilliant remix of Florence & The Machine's "Rabbit Heart" that he turned in last summer, his rework of "When I'm Alone" is a sprawling epic, an anthemic leviathan looming large in the mix for 8+ minutes of balearic bliss. At long last the time has come, friends. Ellie Goulding finally hits our fair shores next month, playing her debut US shows at The Roxy in LA and New York City's Hiro Ballroom. Jakwob first burst onto the scene and melted minds with his empire-toppling mix of Ellie Goulding's "Starry Eyed" back in early 2009, and he's since established himself as one of the most sought after remixers in the game via a slew of immense official mixes for everyone from Robyn to Kid Sister. Late last year he sent us a crop of seriously exciting demos that hinted at a young producer on the precipice of greatness, and now at long lost he's ready to unleash the first taste of his original material on the world. Out 13th September on his own Boom Ting Recordings imprint, "Here With Me" arrives as Jakwob's first official single and statement of intent, ominous synths and eerie Burial-esque vox samples washing back and forth across the mix, a tangible sense of dread and longing pervading throughout. Haunting and strangely beautiful, it's only the tip of the iceberg for an artist who promises to be one of the biggest names in dubstep by the time the next twelve months have run their course.

Last year our main man B-Roc (of The Knocks fame) dropped his debut mix on the world, aptly titled The Transplant. It ruled and all (and you can and probably should still check it out here), but now that he's back with the next installment, The Transplant II, that original effort seems like nothing more than a prelude to the greatness of its amazing sequel. He's been hard at work on it since we were on tour with him and Samuel on the west coast last month, and believe us the effort paid off. This is easily our favorite mix of all time, replete with Neon Gold classics both old and new. From beloved alumni like Marina & The Diamonds, Ellie Goulding and The Sound of Arrows, to the new class of Neon Gold all stars like Dom, The Naked & Famous and The Knocks themselves (all singles we haven't even announced yet but will be coming your way on 7" later this summer), this shit is off the chains. 40+ minutes of absolute bliss, you better believe this is worth your time.

We first featured Chiddy Bang with their amazing remix of MGMT's "Kids" last spring, and in the time since they've had a surprise Top Ten hit in the UK with that very track ("Opposite of Adults") released their debut mixtape The Swelly Express, and established themselves as a serious force to be reckoned with in the electro-hip hop scene. Now they're back with the follow up to The Swelly Express, titled Air Swell and comprised solely of tracks written on the duo's frequent transatlantic flights between the US and the UK. The lead off track is a remix of our very own Neon Gold homegirl Ellie Goulding (WHO BY THE WAY HAS A NUMBER ONE ALBUM IN THE UK RIGHT NOW), with beatsmith Xaphoon Jones taking her amazing "Under The Sheets" and synthing it out even harder than the Starsmith-produced original, before Chiddy hops on the mic and absolutely slays it on the verse. Hailing from Detroit, the Motor City native just moved to the concrete jungle where dreams are made of to work on her debut album with our dudes The Knocks, who are fresh off killing it in the studio with our dear friends Samuel and Ellie Goulding. But yeah, Alex got here like yesterday and already has major label A&R's beating down her door, so cop "Animal Baby" below and definitely keep an eye out for this one.

We alluded to the huge remix package that's come together to support the upcoming release of Ellie Goulding's debut single proper "Starry Eyed", and last week we unveiled the jaw-dropping first effort from Russ Chimes. This week we shift our gaze from London to NYC, where the city's best new producer and hottest young rap sensation have teamed up to take the original to new levels of AMAZING. Stripping the original of Starsmith's synth-laden pop production, Penguin Prison transforms the track into an after hours disco burner, complete with a huge feature from Brooklyn hip hop phenom Theophilus London. Penguin, Ellie and Theo are already three of the most hyped new names in music in their own right, so much so that we fear this union of the three in a holy trinity of pop perfection could potentially be enough to throw the earth off its axis, but fuck it, we can't bear to keep this under wraps any longer.

"Starry Eyed" first lit up the blogs last spring in its original demo form, but now it's back with a new makeover for 2010 as Ellie Goulding gears up to release it as her debut single proper on Polydor next month. With a few tweaks here and there and a glossy new paint job from Starsmith, the track is bigger than ever and we're breathless in anticipation of the havoc it's sure to wreak on the charts when it drops February 22nd. The single is already pretty much the total package, but sweetening the deal considerably is an amazing new OneInThree-directed video for the single (viewable in all it's next level glory above), as well as a flurry of shit hot remixes supporting the release, the first of which we've got for you here today.

Proving once again why he's the most underrated remixer in the game, Russ Chimes comes through with his finest effort to date on what's sure to go down as one of 2010's biggest club tracks. Russ first sent this through to us last spring when the demo first surfaced, and nearly a full year on it still hasn't lost any of its luster, consistently slaying us with its unrelenting house piano brilliance and that massive drop that never ceases to send us into paralytic shock with its sheer immensity. Seriously people, get ready to hear this on the regular in every club west of the iron curtain this year, Russ Chimes just owned 2010.

NEON GOLD PRESENTS: THE SOUND OF 2010.

We love lists more than pretty much anything, so we couldn't be happier that list-making season is upon us once again. The BBC's annual Sound of 2010 is pretty much the king of all lists, so for all intents and purposes we're gonna just take their exact approach as we look forward to next year. So yeah, same criteria - artists can't have had a Top 20 single or album to date, can't be a solo project from an established artist, etc - and all that jazz. Seems like we were a bit too far-sighted with last year's lists, as most of those acts - while still doing quite well for themselves - haven't actually released their debut album yet. So there will be a few repeats on this year's list, and it'll mostly be concerned with bands that will definitely have albums out next year in the UK and will definitely be massive. And away we go...


DRAKE // Not sure if Drake qualifies as I can't find any evidence of whether or not he's charted in the UK yet, but if he's eligible for the list then he's a no-brainer number one. The BBC Sound of... lists aren't exactly reknowned for their attention to hip-hop so I doubt he'll top the actual BBC list, but Kid Cudi repped hard on last year's list and 50 Cent locked down the #1 spot back in 2003, and Drake's as deserving (if not more) as both of those dudes.



MARINA & THE DIAMONDS + ELLIE GOULDING // Asking us to choose between these two would be like asking a proud parent to choose their favorite child, so we'll let them share this slot and sit nicely alongside one another. I don't think anyone doubts the huge year these two have ahead of them, and with immense lead singles planned for early next year followed shortly thereafter by massive debut albums, we can pretty much tell you with absolute certainty that they're not gonna dissapoint. Ellie's about as Sound of 2010 as you could possibly get, while Marina's more of a timeless pop star operating outside the boundaries of what's currently "in", but we're confident both will be sitting pretty as two of the most successful breakthrough artists of 2010 this time next year. Love our babygirls.


HURTS // For all we know Hurts only have one song and a cool video, but god damn that one song is MASSIVE. Plus, given the amount of money Sony threw at them we're assuming they've got to have a couple more big guns waiting in the wings, and they've just got their whole aesthetic nailed so masterfully that we can't see them not going supernova next year. For now, it's all about "Wonderful Life" though, out next January with an amazing remix package and that aforementioned flawless video. Such a hit.


SKY FERREIRA // I don't think we've even heard a proper track from her yet, but with the biggest UK record deal of 2009 (don't quote me on that), her epic "it girl" status, some serious pipes and production credits on her forthcoming debut album including Aeroplane, Bloodshy & Avant and Paul Epworth, she's pretty much a shoo-in for superstardom next year.


PENGUIN PRISON // We doubt the man they call Penguin Prison will make the BBC list, but if people knew just how unreal his debut album is shaping up to be he'd be all over this shit. Seriously, "Funny Thing" and "Animal Animal" are so barely the tip of the iceberg it's not even funny, he's got about a hundred amazing singles up his sleeve and some of the best pop tracks we've heard in ages. Seriously, dude is the best thing to happen to cool pop music in ages.


DAISY DARES YOU // Yet another girl primed for big things next year, we've got a few tracks from her that suggest she'll be every bit as big as the pop ladies of 2009 who paved the way for this year's crop of talented females. Mainly it's all about "Number One Enemy", which is just such a massive summertime pop smash it's a little bit ridiculous. Sky Ferreira's main competition for Lolita of 2010 honors, Daisy's gonna be all over the place next year.


STARSMITH // Surprise! He's a solo artist too. Literally everything Starsmith's touched thus far has turned to gold, and he's pretty much single-handedly (slight exaggeration) crafted that futuristic pop sound that has defined the last twelve months and will likely continue to reign surpreme in 2010, so we have no reason to suspect he's not going to continue killing it in the months to come. Few people have heard his actual solo material, but trust us, it's kind of amazing.


THEOPHILUS LONDON // Dude is just the biggest superstar we've ever seen on the small stage, he's just oozing swagger and star power, and even if he doesn't quite have the original material to back it up just yet, we really can't see him not being HUGE next year.


THE SOUND OF ARROWS // Quickly becoming our favorite band in the world, the Sound of Arrows can quite literally do it all. Music videos, production, songwriting, remixes, art direction... literally everything. I don't really know where they fit in with the current music scene, but I don't really care, they're just operating on a whole different level than pretty much anyone else at the moment.


OWL CITY // I mean, if this dude can get to #1 out of nowhere with a track like "Fireflies" in the US, I can barely fathom the kind of damage he could do on the UK charts. "Fireflies" is out in February in the UK and it's gonna be kind of a big deal.


ERIK HASSLE // We know things haven't really gotten off to the most promising start for our beloved Swede, but if Island play their cards right Erik could really go massive next year. If they can just stop trying to make him into the pop star he's not and just embrace his weird Napoleon-Dynamite-gone-pop vibe and indie charm I feel like he could really surprise a lot of people next year. And seriously, is there a single person who can honestly tell us "Hurtful" doesn't sound like an international number one?


LOCAL NATIVES // It's about time proper bands made a comeback and Local Natives are just operating on a whole different playing field from everyone else. Their album's already out and shit (and it's one of the year's absolute finest), but if this isn't the best new band of 2009/2010 we don't know who is.


LUNAR YOUTH // Good looking dudes who know how to play their instruments writing stadium-sized anthems. "Venus In Blue Jeans" is stupidly big. They're going to be quite popular indeed.


FREELANCE WHALES // Not a chance in hell these guys make the BBC list and they're still unsigned for the UK, but they've already got one of the year's (this year or next, we'd reckon) best albums under their belt and the best indie label in America on their team (what up Frenchkiss?), so why the hell shouldn't they be big next year? All these lists have to have a token folk-ish act anyway, might as well be the best one around.


CLARE MAGUIRE // WE STILL BELIEVE.

The teaser clip of "Under The Sheets" has already racked up nearly 15,000 views on YouTube and countless yearning requests for the unveiling of the full track, and now the time has finally come. Ellie delivers another killer vocal with some of her best verses yet, and Starsmith turns in one of the absolute top production efforts of the year behind the knobs. The result is nothing short of amazing, a serious coming out party for two artists who will surely be owning the pop game for months to come.
