Wildcat! Wildcat! just stay exceeding expectations with each new offering, dating all the way back to their debut single on Neon Gold last summer. The latest addition to their single ouevre, "Garden Grays", is a cinematic achievement of the highest order, from the enigmatic keyboard riff in the growing build-up to the growling backdrop and cooing vocals. Wildcat releases their debut EP proper on Downtown next month, with their debut NYC shows at Glasslands and Mercury Lounge hot on its heels at the end of the month.

After stripping away the '80s outerwear of the original, they space it out and shroud it in a technicolor cloak of invincibility, drawing out the dark undertones of the original with stunted synths and heightened vocals. With SXSW around the corner, we're teaming up with Ultimate Ears to bring you yet another jam-packed New Shapes day party to get involved with. Last year, we had Charli XCX, St. Lucia, and HAIM to name but a few, and we're taking it back to the Red Eyed Fly for another two stage indoor/outdoor extravaganza again this year. Outside, we've got Kodaline, Wardell, Ambassadors, and Michael Kiwanuka, in addition to our very own HAERTS and the inimitable Sky Ferreira in the headline slot. Sr. Sly rode in under the shroud of night, as mysterious as ever. Like a premonition with ammunition, lead single "Ghost" makes its presence known with hooded synths that grind their teeth, knuckles clenched, and counter vocals that coo with smokey nonchalance. It reminds us of the best parts of Wildcat! Wildcat! and Electric Guest, with shades of KO KO in there for good measure. And even after the haunting back-pedaling beat and horror story harmonies, it comes back with another stealth attack of immutable perfection. Our second Popshop West was a runaway success, with St. Lucia selling out The Echo HARD in his Los Angeles debut. For the third installment next Monday, we're bringing back launch party standouts Wildcat! Wildcat! to close out their month-long Echo residency in style with a grand finale of epic proportions. Warming up the stage we have Frank + Derol getting things started early, before DWNTWN take over the main support slot with their irresistible boy-girl electro charm and west coast dreamrockers Magic Wands wrap things up late night. Wildcat! Wildcat! - a band so nice they named it twice. We brought you to the incredibly infectious "Mr. Quiche" a little under a fortnight ago, and they've since kept the gold standard going on the song's exceptional video (above). Then there's companion track, "End Of The World Everyday", which sets the scene with a sunkissed bass line and squinting falsetto-tinged vocals before a luminous chorus arrives overflowing with bright, iridescent harmonies, like MGMT in the throes of a nostalgic acid flashback.

Tonight, the band continue their rapid ascent to the stars as they play the launch party of Popshop West alongside fellow bright young things Haim and Ko Ko. And just added, it's our dudes The Knocks out to give the night a bit of NYC flavor with a headlining DJ set. If Haim are the best new LA band already on everyone's radar, then Wildcat! Wildcat! are next in line to bowl people over. It was their Royal Tenenbaums-inspired calling card and flawless aesthetic that first caught our eye, but it wasn't long before the trio's technicolor serendipity pop had us hook, line and sinker. With vocals that flit between the chronic lightness of Passion Pit and Active Child and keys mined from the darkest depths of Miike Snow's imagination, Wildcat create a bristling soundscape like no other. Multi-tiered synths build up and crumble like sovereign empires, with smoke breaks in between to recharge the self-destructive cycle, flawless production leaving the whole affair shining resplendently throughout.
